Osteoarthritis (OA), also called osteoarthroses or degenerative joint disease, is the most common type of arthritis. OA is a chronic condition characterized by the breakdown of the joint’s cartilage. The breakdown of cartilage causes the bones to rub against each other, causing stiffness, pain and loss of movement in the joint.1
How Physical Therapy can benefit you:
- Strengthening exercises focused around the arthritic joint can help reduce pain and improve function
- Maximizing range of motion (ROM) of your joints through stretching and exercises is an important part of your daily function
- Water exercises are a great way to get a full body work out with reduced pressure on your arthritic joints.
