Peripheral Neuropathy is disorder of nerve(s) apart from the brain and
spinal cord. Patients with peripheral neuropathy may have tingling,
numbness, unusual sensations, weakness, or burning pain.
A common form of Neuropathy is cause by diabetes, known as Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy.
How Physical Therapy will benefit you:
- An individualized rehabilitation program will be created to focus on balance and any musculoskeletal restrictions
- Anodyne therapy: is an infrared medical device that can increase circulation and reduce pain. Anodyne therapy can help to restore sensation in the feet of diabetic patients with peripheral neuropathy.
- Make sure to check your feet every night for any changes in your skin integrity including minor cuts, scrapes, blisters, or pressure sores. If left untreated these conditions can result in ulceration or infections.
- Wear shoes that fit properly. Poorly fitted shoes may cause irritation or injury.
